And while

we cluck our tongues in dismay over the mounting allegations of voter fraud ( Can we say "Democrats?") in other Alabama counties,

"Since those reports became public, Chapman said the claims of voter fraud have not stopped coming in from other counties including Bullock, Lowndes, Jackson, Hale, Jefferson, Dallas and Wilcox."

let us not forget our own Russell County, who didn't make the list of counties that have allegations of voter fraud. An oversight? Or will it be swept under the rug, so's not to sully our reputation.

""Out of office two years later because of a 30-year-old burglary conviction, Reed vowed to return to elected office. He recaptured District 4 two weeks ago, beating a three-opponent field by 100 votes, with 80 percent of his 252 votes from absentee ballots.""

Odds are it's mostly Democrats. And it's a good thing to get a handle on the fraud now. Obama is busy trying to make the Southern states competitive with a massive voter registration drive.

As I noted in a previous post
"Don’t get to frisky or the results will look like the ones from some of those banana republics."

Does

this

"Slap a dollar-a-gallon tax on residents of any coastal state that bans drilling in the Pacific or Atlantic, and give that money to people who live within a mile of a coal-fired power plant."

Sound familiar?

"But lets put a stick with the carrot of oil revenues. Say a 10% federal surcharge on natural gas or oil products that are sold in states that ban drilling within the states waters. And a 25% surcharge on states if drilling is banned in federal waters. That money could then be split among the producer states for environmental causes"

We know we got the right

to keep "arms"

Now the argument will shift to

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

"Justice Antonin Scalia’s opinion for the majority stressed that the Court was not casting doubt on long-standing bans on carrying a concealed gun"

I wonder if that means he would side with the "open" carry.

I, also, wonder, using the liberals favorite argument, if this means that the right to keep "arms" is now settled law?

Does redneckin take a bow?

Today I was headed to Opelika, the county seat for Lee County , Alabama loaded for bear..
I’ve moved from Russell County, Alabama into Lee County, Alabama and as a consequence my pistol permit (it’s not a concealed carry. You can strap it on your side like Gary Cooper in High Noon, if you wish) is no longer valid.

Why was I loaded for bear?

Russell County, under Sheriff Tommy Boswell, has an enlightened permit policy that has minimum restrictions. In Alabama, the pistol permit, while valid state wide, is a county issued permit with the sheriff having wide latitude as to the who, why and how to issue.

Jay Jones, Sheriff of Lee County was the side issue and the subject in several posts that I wrote on Alabama’s pistol permit system last year. Last November I wrote a post that noted this requirement on the pistol permit application and website for Lee County.
*4. Before the application can be processed, the make, model and serial number of the weapon must appear on the application or it will not be considered.*

Naturally, I threw a hissy fit about this registration scheme.
I was prepared for a fight about having to register my handguns. I tote several different depending on dress, weather, occasion and other factors.

I needn’t have bothered. Sometime between the writing of that post (and harassing some Goat Hill denizens ) the requirement was quietly dropped. The new application is very similar to Russell County.
The online list of requirements no longer has the registration requirement though the paper I was handed at the window still did.
I asked the lady at the window how many of my guns did I have to list and she said I could list none one or all.
By it being on the application paper handed out at the window, if you don't ask, you might think that it is still a requirement

So, the question is “Does redneckin take a bow” for being a factor in the, at least partial, removal of this odious requirement?

Meanwhile, Baldwin County and Sheriff Huey Hoss Mack, still helpfully suggests that you register your guns with them so that they may assist you in the event of a theft.

And if you had a fight with your wife last Friday night.

And how long have you lived in the county.
Funny, I've never lived in Baldwin County, but I can carry while someone who hasn't lived there very long might not be able to. Heck, people fromother states can to. That's what happens when you have a state wide permit controlled by the counties of issue.

They also require you to supply three character references that know they are recommending the approval of the permit. I wonder how long before some shyster lawyer decides that he can sue the character referrers if a pistol permittee violates the law?

Other posts that might be outdated by now

Another interesting line

“People ask me if HOPE VI was successful, and I have to say, ‘You mean the buildings or the people?’” said Laura Harris, a HOPE VI evaluator in Memphis. “It became seen as a way to get rid of eyesores and attract rich people downtown.”

that seems to apply to

I read a piece

on The Fair Tax System in the Citizen of East Alabama. The federal sales tax is heavily promoted by Boortz.

What was I doing reading the Citizen? I was out of paper to start the bbq grill, so 2 gave me a copy he had. Anyway, Blenda Copeland interviewed Shirley Bolt of Shirley's Accounting. She was, of course, against any such system.

Why, "of course"?
Don't you think that a person who's livelihood depended on a complicated book keeping system would naturally be against any thing that simplified the process and made it less gameable?

At least it was a fairly balanced piece with some quotes from Russ Hollenbeck, host of "In the know" on the Phenix City cable monopoly, in favor.

And naturally, our Senator's hedged their bets
08:40:15 - chuck - No comments

The question is

“will moving people from Riverview and spreading them throughout the city, merely scatter crime that had been contained into a certain sector?"

I noticed that Mayor Jeff Hardin who has been pushing the purchase of the Triangle from the Phenix Housing Authority and then gifting it to Troy State is saying that replacement housing has been identified and approval is waiting. [His mouth keeps running]

One of the things that voters

considering whether or not to vote for Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright who is running as a Democrat for the Alabama 2nd congressional district is where does he stand on the Second Amendment.

"Bright said there are two caveats to the exchange. The other party must sell the firearms to law enforcement agencies and those agencies must be outside of the state of Alabama."

By retailing the guns to the law abiding public, the Mayor could probably raise more money than the swap. It looks like he just thinks that Alabamians can't be trusted with guns

We know how he stands on cameras watching over us

So you think

that the government should regulate the price of gasoline?

Alabama suggests otherwise
""The newspaper reported that Alabama's gas prices tracked closely to the national average and were lower than prices in at least 23 states in the early 1980s. But shortly after the PSC adopted rate stabilization, the state's average gas rate began its climb in the federal rankings.""

It's a split decision at redneckin

Nothing unusual there.
Some feel that it should be left to the states to decide if they want drilling off of their coastline. Of course, that should mean that states should also be able to ban drilling within their own state, even if it's federal land.

The split?
I agree that states should be allowed to ban drilling within state waters the same as they decide some fishing regulations
But in Federal waters, the feds should make the call.

But lets put a stick with the carrot of oil revenues. Say a 10% federal surcharge on natural gas or oil products that are sold in states that ban drilling within the states waters. And a 25% surcharge on states if drilling is banned in federal waters. That money could then be split among the producer states for environmental causes

What I have learned from Obama's black supporters

It is perfectly ok to use the color, ethnicity, religion of someone to help you decide whom to vote for.
And after listening to black bloggers and black conservative leaders that said on NPR that while they supported McCain in the primaries now that Obama is to be the Democrat candidate, they will vote for Obama.

That means the color of the skin is of overriding importance.
For instance, now, if a candidate is black, it is ok to vote for the white opposition because he is white even if the black candidate's positions are more in line with your own.
And no one can claim racism anymore.
Or, if they do, it is merely a case of the kettle calling the pot black.
No pun intended.
Now some would say that has always been the case. Maybe so, but now, whites should no longer have anyone trying to make them feel guilty about it.
Right, Collective We?

redneckin, completely supports Columbus's

newest "it's only a penny" SPLOST

Any tax that helps keep East Alabama merchants competitive with Columbus is welcome.
And if those fools in Phenix City that so love to shop in Columbus to the detriment of their own children s education and their own infrastructure needs want to continue shopping there, they deserve the tax increases on their property and services that will be needed. But then again, I never thought that ya'll were all that smart

Protecting their own

Or why I say "A pox on both their houses"

Instead of wanting to investigate the CountryWide Six and find out who else might have had sweetheart deals receiving preferential treatment on mortgages

"A leading House Republican called Monday for hearings to determine which lawmakers received discount mortgage deals from Countrywide Financial Corp., but his colleagues in the House and the Senate don’t seem particularly eager to start turning over rocks."

It's about time

According to WSFA, since the news about vote fraud in the Alabama primary (I'd bet it's mainly on the Democrat side. I wonder if the media or press will let us know? Just kidding. We all know who the press runs interference for), new allegations have been coming out of the woodwork.

Jackson, Hale, Jefferson, Dallas and Wilcox Counties join Lowdes county along with Perry and Bullock

Think they may get around to Russell?
"Out of office two years later because of a 30-year-old burglary conviction, Reed vowed to return to elected office. He recaptured District 4 two weeks ago, beating a three-opponent field by 100 votes, with 80 percent of his 252 votes from absentee ballots."

I don't know why the State Attorney General would stop with just Lowdes, Perry and Bullock. There seems to systematic abuse in the Alabama voting system. We need to know who, what political party, and what faction of that party is involved.

Ya think?

"Palestinians, Israelis at Odds Over Saudi Plan"

Lets see. That means that Israel would retreat from all territories occupied in 1967 including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. Then a Palestinian state would be established.
Oh yeah, and the refugees and their descendants be allowed to move back into Israel, effectively ending the Jewish state.

After United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194 is implemented, it would be logical to combine Palestine with the former Jewish state of Israel, in a democratic vote after Arabs became the new majority through a combination of high birth rate and ethnic cleansing.
It's the usual model followed wherever and whenever, Muslim population reaches certain levels

Some of you

who have read my War on Drugs rants, know that I feel that you are asking for trouble when you let the police and the government legal system benefit from seized assets.
Eventually, the law starts to depend on the money and to actively look, not for the crime, but, at the assets.

"The U.S. attorney's office in Macon, Ga., has now initiated proceedings to keep Hunt's money based on probable cause that it is "proceeds traceable" to "a controlled substance." Among their strongest evidence:

* The deputy smelled burned marijuana.
* The deputy observed "an untestable" amount of what appeared to be marijuana on the floorboard.
* Drug dogs detected drug residue on the currency when it was brought back to the station."

Those have to be three of the flimsiest reasons I've ever heard of

Jefferson County, Alabama

has a debt problem (to put it mildly) with its sewer system, a 3.2 Billion dollar debt problem.

While it's only a drop in the bucket, the use of consultants reflects the mindset that probably led to the problem.

The Commission agrees that maybe they need to cut back on the consultants ...after authorizing to pay Merrill Lynch $75,000 per month.
This is in addition to Birmingham investment firm Porter, White & Co. up to $1.5 million for its work; law firms Bradley Arant Rose & White, up to $1 million; Balch & Bingham, $600,000 and Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, $600,000.

Second Amendment supporters, EBR'ers (evil black rifle) and hunters!!!!

Voting their race,

not their politics.

Such a shame that so many black conservatives are also bigots who look at the color of the skin and not the politics of the person to determine who to vote for

13 June

This squares

with my belief.

"Eighty-three percent (83%) of those angry about immigration direct their anger at the federal government while only 12% point towards the immigrants."

And this related note in the above poll

"This is consistent with other recent polling data showing that an overwhelming majority of voters believe the federal government itself has become a special interest group that looks out primarily for its own interest."

By the way, did you know that the Democrats have been in control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate for over 17 months or almost a year and half.
Just thought I would point that out
21:36:39 - chuck - No comments

Heh

I refer to the waste of all those years these justices spent in law school studying how adherence to legal precedent is the bedrock of the rule of law, when it turns out, all they really needed was a Pew poll, a subscription to the New York Times, and the latest edition of “How to Make War for Dummies.”

I blame global warming

"NOAA: U.S. Has 36th Coolest Spring on Record "

Who says it's all bad? There would be winners and losers if there is such a thing as global warming due to human activity.
One benefit, We won't have as far to drive to the beach when the icecaps melt. Besides, we could look at it as training for terraforming.

Of course, some of the radical greens will want bans on such things.

"On the other hand, for those opposed to terraforming, the impact of the human species on otherwise untouched worlds and the possible interference with or elimination of alien life forms are good reasons to leave these other worlds in their natural states; this is an example of a strong biocentric view, or object-centered ethic."

Off the air

Indian_Head_320.jpg

Don't get your hopes up. And no, I didn't try to find a more pc pattern

One of the things that GF and I haven’t got around to installing here at Rabbit Run is cable or satellite tv.
And the strange thing?

We don’t really miss it. At least ,I don't
I thought it would be a hard habit to break, but like my drinking, womanizing, smoking and myrid of other vices, legal and illegal, that I have given up, it was surprisingly easy....once it's time had come.

Oh we still have a tv hooked up, but we don’t even get "over the air" broadcasts since we don’t have an antenna. The little, roughly 12” diagonal tv is used only for movies and keeping up with the occasional tv series that we enjoy, like “My name is Earl”.

We have the season’s shows delivered to us in the mail from Blockbuster. The selection is better than in a physical store and we can often find movies that are now considered less than politically correct such as the Alamo, ( as an aside, one of my favorite stories is about Davy Crockette who died at the Alamo. He is reputed to have given a speech critical of his Congressional colleagues who were willing to spend taxpayer dollars to help a widow of a U.S. Navy man who had lived beyond his naval service, but would not contribute their own salary for a week to the cause.)

And the Tarzan movies of yore. I especially liked the scenes where the natives would bend over trees and tie the evil white hunters feet to opposing trees, then cutting the ropes holding them bent over

My news is mainly off the internet. I don’t buy newspapers except when I need some to light the charcoal. The only broadcast news I get is off the “to the left, NPR”. I’ve gotten quite good at mentally deleting the “keywords” that they use to slant the story while formulating my own “counter argument” with tidbits I’ve gotten from web sources.

Overall, I really don’t care if we get “tv”. GF however is both a child of the air conditioning age and a child of the “idiot box” generation. She has had some serious withdrawal symptoms, but is rapidly coming around as the flickering blue light fades from memory
